Cascade Gateway Park-2011

Last year, Tyler Griswold, a sophomore at North Salem, and Tony Currier-Reagor, a sophomore at Early College High School, represented Oregon and the United States of America at the Caretakers of the Environment International (CEI) Conference in Debrecen, Hungary in July. They were accompanied by Nancy Umeda, Houck science teacher and James Rogers – a CEI USA Alumni, and OSU Extension Sustainable Communities Coordinator, Dan Hoynacki. Oregon CEI Chapter has attended every national conference since 2004, and hosted the National CEI Conference in 2005. This year CEI Oregon Chapter presented their restoration project at Cascades Gateway Park located in Salem, Oregon, which began with about a 400-foot creek bank restoration of Mill Creek that is still under construction. For this project the team has been busy wheeling and dealing with invasive weeds and blackberry bushes, while also planting native trees and plants.
